Our Drop Everything and Read initiative will continue this week. Please have a book in your bag to read on Tuesday As part of Transition Year Gaisce programme, Declan Cullen studied coding. He decided to put his new skills into practice by creating a TY website to display his work. He has done a great job showing the range of work he and his fellow students do during their Transition Year. Well done Declan.
Beginning next week students of Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate years will be taking their Mock Examinations in the school. The following is the timetable for both Examinations and the various times for each.
Commiserations to our under17 soccer team who played in the Leinster under 17 final last week in Arklow. Despite the driving rain and terrible conditions for both teams an exciting game was witnessed by teachers, supporters and players between St Marys CBS and Presentation College Bray in Arklow FC soccer grounds. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half. St Marys played with the wind and came close on a couple of occasions to opening the scoring but both sides went in at half time 0-0. In the second half St Marys were under pressure but gave as good as they got and indeed struck the crossbar midway through. However our luck turned when the ball went into the net off a defender from a corner and despite valiant efforts to tie the game up it was not to be. Presentation Bray held on for the final whistle to emerge as winner 1-0.
Well done to our boys for the effort both on the day and throughout the campaign. The team was composed of Second Years, Third Years, TY's and some Fifth years. Some of our students participated in the Irish indoor rowing championships which were held in the University of Limerick on January 21st last. The students who took part were from first, second and third years and the events that they took part in were individual 500m and 2000m as well as team relay events. The boys had been training twice a week since October under the supervision of Anne Shore and the event itself was attended by Garry and Paul O'Donovan the silver medallists at the Rio Olympics.
So well done to the boys involved and to their trainer and continued success to them into the future. On behalf of the Principal and the Staff of St Marys CBS we would like to extend seasons geetings to all students and their families and look forward to a peaceful and successful 2017. See you all again in the New Year!!!!
